ANOTHER new $50 Sharebuilder Bonus!

ShareBuilder

As you all know, I love bank offers and I LOVE the Sharebuilder $50 Bonuses they offer quite frequently.

I also like these bonuses because they do NOT require direct deposits and they can be done for each member of the family..even children. And,you come out of the process as a stock holder! Yeah!

Are you a Grandparent, Aunt or Uncle? This is a great gift idea, too, for the kids you love. My kids grandparents buy them one gift for the Holidays and give the rest of their gift in savings for the kids. It is a great gift that will benefit the children years from now. In fact, part of my first year of college was paid from the savings I had accumulated from my childhood.

In fact, when you invest for a child, you have two options. You can choose a custodial account or an Educational Savings Account. Although, I believe, you only get the bonus on the custodial account. Call to check.

The custodial account is created for the benefit of the minor while the Educational Savings Account is a trust created for the purpose of educational expenses for the child. In fact, you may benefit from the tax savings of this account.

So, this time, I am opening an account for my eldest son.

Use Promotional Code ORANGE50CASH ( expires 12/31 ).

Don't forget, you can find this offer and all other Bonus Offers from Financial Institutions in my Bank Offers button found in the left side bar menu.

What other deals are going on right now?

Big thanks to Money Smart Life for sharing this code.

hi carrie,

since you are doing this for your eldest son, does that mean that you put the information of your son? and if so, what bank account do you use in transferring the $5, from your son's bank or from your bank?

regards,

mona

Am I understanding this right?
If I already have an account in my name and received my $50, I should use a different code and a different family member to do this again?

Steph,

Yes, the first time I signed up for myself.

Next time they came out with a code, I signed my husband up. That was the $50 you just saw hit last week for him.

This week, I am signing up my eldest son.

Next time new codes come out, I will sign up my daughter and then my youngest son. I am just waiting for new codes to come out for that.

All in all, when it is done, I should have $150 in free money from them.

I will let my kids keep their free money, though and put in in their accounts.

I got my first $50 the other day, too! Question: do you close your account after you get your bonus?

I just found this page with several other Sharebuilder codes--might try those for my kids. http://www.bargaineering.com/articles/sharebuilder-50-bonus-revisit.html

Thanks Carrie. Do you need to set it up in different bank accounts or can you set it up under the same one? My husband and I presently share our checking account. Thanks

Holley,

With Sharebuilder, I don't. Mainly, because I do own one share of stock still. You never know...maybe you picked a winner and 10 years from now that $1 could be worth a lot more. :-)

Probably not it today's market...but still.

Also, they will send promotions out once in a while for free trades, etc. If I have been watching a stock I am interested in, this could be a great time for me to purchase and not pay fees. Got to love that.

So, in answer...I do keep my Sharebuilder open.

Carrie @ Moneysavingmethods.com said...

I actually don't know the answer to that one, because I did open mine with different checking accounts.

I would call Sharebuilder and explain your husband wants to set up an individual account but will need to use the same checking account you have. Make sure to ask if it will interfere with him getting his bonus.

I'd like to open accounts for my boys, but when I went to open one for my 4 year old, it said he was too young. So what should I do next?

Mona,

I probably should have explained it a bit better in my post.

If you set up a custodial account for a child, you enter YOUR own information first.....as the adult. Then, as you go thru the process, it will ask you for your child's information later in the process right before you hit the Create Account button.

You can do either. I sent the $5 from my son's savings account ( which is free to transfer from a checking or a savings) because I figured that $5 is turning into $50 for him.

Carrie @ Moneysavingmethods.com said...

Jamie,

It sounds like you put his information in first.

You need to enter your information, as the adult and custodian of the account, first.

Later in the process, right before you hit Create Account, it will ask for the child's name, birthday and social security #.

This does make a nice gift for them, doesn't it?

I expect my son's $50 to hit before Christmas and I am going to give it to him...or I guess really, $45 since he funded it( or a letter explaining ) in his stocking. He is starting to get very excited about money and how much he is saving.

As far as using the same checking/savings account, it worked for my husband's and mine. I set mine up and then a week later (just because things got busy) I set his up and we've both received our bonuses! Can you say $100?! :)

When I try to set this up in my son's name, because he is under 18 I put my information in first and get the message that I have an exzisting account already. If I proceed will he still get the $50 credit? Thanks for all of your wonderful help!

Jackie,
I was worried about the same thing.

What I did...not even sure how...is I typed the wrong password/user name combo when it would tell me I already had an account.

By the 3rd time of submitting, it allowed me to set it up without linking it to my old account.

Not sure if that will work for everyone.

But, I would have to think it would still give you credit even if you linked it to your account.
All you could do is call them to check...but mine did go thru.

Okay, I just got up the nerve to try these bank offers out! I signed up for the E-trade offer (for both my husband and myself) and I signed up for the Sharebuilder for myself (I'll sign up my hubby tomorrow -- it's getting late!)

I'm nervous, but excited too!

Thanks so much for all of the AWESOME info! (And a HUGE thanks for the link last week too!!) :)

I just signed up but did not get a message saying I was going to get $50. Did I miss something?
