Are you watching the debate, too?

After a day of watching the news and my families investments disappear in the stock market, I am now sitting here staring at the TV watching the debates.

In all honesty, I have no idea how much money we have lost. My husband and I decided last week to NOT look ( yes, sounds irresponsible ) and to still leave our automatic investments in place. Meaning, as the market crashes, we are getting more for our monthly money invested. Or, so we hope it plays out that way! :-)

Considering we don't need our money for 20 to 30 years, and we weren't using any of this money for living expenses, etc, there is no point in even fretting about it.

On the other hand, our parents are in retirement or near retirement and they do have to worry? What do they do? It is definitely frightening.

Hmmm...maybe we need that money to build a mother-in-law suite in the back yard...and a mother suite and a step mother suite. Whew...we really do need that money now after all!

So, needless to say, I was glued to to the TV this afternoon. So, I will someday have to apologize to my 2 little ones that Mommy kept shushing them all day to hear the news. Poor babies!

NOW...here I sit again..stuck to the TV again.

And, it got me to thinking.....most of my readers are frugal, shopping savvy, monetarily responsible people! Otherwise, why would you frequent all the money saving blogs you do every day, right?

You could just as easily be out there buying homes you can't afford, charging to your credit cards items you "want" but don't need, and falling further into debt. Instead, we sort our coupons, take surveys, complete our online offers and invest our money!

So, my question to everyone is....who are the money saving Americans, namely you, voting for this election?

I know who I am voting for...for various reasons, and I am curious. No need for names, debate, etc....just a fun little poll...simply because I am curious!

You will find the the poll in the upper right side bar of my blog. Please take a moment to answer!

And, of course, you are free to leave comments and debate if you really feel the need! :-)

Oh Carrie, you are opening a can of worms!

Personally, I'm not thrilled with either of my choices, but I had been leaning toward Obama. I kept waiting for McCain to show me something to sway me. Well, he did. The incredibly poor choice of Sarah Palin as a VP was the nail in the coffin for me. I'll keep reading and listening and thinking it through until the very last day, but I can't get past the very frightening thought that she is one 72-year-old heartbeat away from running my country.

This is a difficult one. I have no political party, I vote as I see the need in different offices. That being said I really wonder if either of these candidates are going to be able to really fix the economy. I have been out of work for 7 months and just started a new job this week so money has been even more rough lately. I do know that my husband opened a letter about his retirement fund and it had lost 800 bucks in one month. Like you we can't fret about this because we can do nothing about it and we have many years before we need it. However people vote I can see either side. I am just dishearted with the entire thing and just want things to get better.

Might I make a suggestion? If you are speaking of your 401K, take a look. Trust me, not looking can be a shock, especially when you do look and realized that you have lost 20% over the past 12 months. Everything you have paid in for the past 12 months is gone, plus more.

We switched over to a fixed interest rate for the 401K at 4.8% until year end. Then, it will be re-evaluated by the investment company. 4.8% isn't much, but it's better than loosing everything you are paying in, and more up to 20%!

-4.8% is better than -20%!

As a major money saver and coupon clipper...I will NOT be voting for a socialist. I'll be voting for McCain.

Am I the only one who can't see the poll?

Carrie, I'm still undecided - I'm concerned about both to tell you the truth. No matter what they say - taxes will go up. However, I'm concerned about how liberal Obama is and the two new justices will be seated after this election. I just don't know...

Angela,

Were you able to see the poll finally, or is it still not showing up for you?

If you can't see it, email me and I will try and figure out what is happening on your end.

And, thanks to all who have voted thus far. I will post results next week, when my "official" polling closes!

It is fun to see which way other " money saving" families are leaning.

With everything going on in the economy, I have the utmost respect and loyalty towards my peers who choose to live smart and spend within their means ( again, I am talking about all of you reding my blog and other money saving sites )....and find creative ways to take care of their families and their finances.

So, I find it very interesting to see which way all of us in our peer group are leaning.

Of course, nothing will be proven until the end of the poll, AND then these VERY SCIENTIFIC results are released. ( Just kidding of course, nothing scientific about my poll ).

Thanks again for all the comments and voting.

Very interesting! And, if I haven't typed it enough on my blog....no matter who you vote for.....get out and vote!

I got this great forwarded email a while ago about the women who fought so that the future women of American, namely me, would have the privilege to have my voice heard. The least I can do as thanks to them is stand in line and cast my ballot, right?

Carrie, I absolutely agree with you about the voting issue! No matter WHO you decide to vote for, the important thing is to exercise that right to vote! Hilary Swank starred in a good movie about the Woman Suffrage Movement--I think it was called: Ironclad Angels. (A must see for all us, modern women of today.)Anyhoo, I am voting for Obama. I think we need change for our healthcare, energy, and financial economy. I think he has more concise plans to start working on all this. No matter WHO gets to be President--It will take time to turn things around so I think we are going to be in a recession for quite awhile. (I fear a depression.)I like McCain, but I wish he was younger. I don't think Sara Palin has the experience or expertise needed if she suddenly became President if something happened to McCain either. No matter WHO gets in office there will have to be some tax increases--It is a given since Bush pulled Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac out of financial ruin a month or so ago! The newspapers reported the plan is going to be on the burden of the taxpayers for this bailout. AND, this was before the new bank bailout plan! I do think Americans have overcredited so much; however, I feel bad for the many who are losing homes and jobs!I am diligently trying to be as fiscally smart as possible now more than ever before! I am anxious to see how your poll turns out~

I am voting Obama, since I am middle class. I am very surprised by the percentages on the poll so far; guess I thought more people on this site were middle class like me. In my opinion, McCain will keep us in this mess Bush started. I don't believe this race has anything to do with health careor economic issues. I believe it will yet again be a race over taxes, the middle class against the wealthy.

It's me "anonymous" again. I realized I put -4.8% instead of +4.8%.

It's better to make +4.8% than -20%, is what I meant to say. Silly fingers.
