Thankfully, I got a call from my girlfriend, Lili, today to let me know that the Target 75% Toy Clearance would be happening today.
And, well, we need to send a big thank you to Francine, her sister, for alerting both of us.
As usual, I found it was a great time to stockpile my Birthday party, Holidays, Easter, etc shopping. If you remember, I hit the toy sale in January. You can click here to see how I did back then. Notice all those baby dolls I grabbed? Well, my daughter has gone to enough Birthday parties this year, that I was all out of dolls already. And, we have a friend's birthday party next week. Ugh!
So, as you can see from my photo today I was able to grab 6 of the Dora Explorer Girl dolls for just $4.94. These are normally almost $20 each. I am ready for all the birthday parties again! :)
On top of that, I got Thomas the Train, Circo wooden train accessories, Littlest Pet Shop and Fancy Nancy animals, and even accessories for the Dora Girls.
All in all, it was a very successful trip. I saved over $270!
If you have a chance today, run to your local Target to see what is left. Hopefully, you can grab a few toys and mark some sale shopping off your list.

75% Toy Sale - Target

Its too bad so many people have to be greedy and clear the shelves. I can’t tell you how frustrated I am with couponing and deal shopping right now. Here in Utah, I have been to 2 Target stores who’s clearance section has been CLEARED. Completely wiped out. Same thing with this Smith’s deal going on right now. I spoke with the night manager at my local Smith’s last night and he said that people were banging down the door yesterday 15 minutes before the store opened, and by 615 (15 minutes after they opened) the shelves were CLEARED of the good deals. Worse than Black Friday from what I have heard. Either the stores need a better game plan, or couponers need a lesson in etiquette. Probably both.
I think the key is to buy only what you need and will use.
For example, if you read my guidelines for sale shopping, I keep my list with me in my purse at all times. That way, I can go through and mark people off when I buy gifts for someone and not over buy.
Although, don't forget to buy a few extras if you plan to donate gifts at Christmas time. We always adopt a few kids, so you want to remember to have something on hand for them.
But, if people stick to that method it will keep people from overbuying and spending money they don't need to and leave extras for others ( for example, I didn't need those last 2 dolls today as I had no one else on my list to buy them for ) so they were there for the next shopper.
I do find I will get a lot more items if I shop earlier before everything is picked over, but even with not getting to the store until 1 today ( and my mom until 3 ) we were able to get a decent amount of deals. I think it all depends on your area and how many stores you have. I have two Targets and 5 Kroger grocery stores within miles of my home, so lots of options.
If you are in a more rural area, I have a feeling things will be more picked over.
With grocery stores ( I don't have Smith's..so not sure what the sale was ), look at expiration dates and figure how much you can use in that time. Even condiments, etc will go bad after awhile, so you don't want to overbuy. Only you know how much your family will use...so figure how many to buy that way.
I will usually buy a lot of peanut butter when I can get it for next to nothing, but with mayo, for example, even if I can get it for almost nothing, I will only buy 1...maybe 2, because we barely ever use that.
The key is to buy what will actually save your family money, and not to overbuy even when cheap...because that is even wasting money.
