Double Fuel Rewards on Gift Cards from Kroger Co!

I am going to start out by saying that I now have my Christmas Savings button in the upper left side of my site. As I find fun Holiday savings, freebies thru the next few months, I will place links to them there for your convenience.

With that said, here is another fun Holiday deal from Kroger Co.

As you may remember, I have posted about the benefit of getting Gift Cards discounted. This leads to a greater savings for you! In fact, too many people only view Gift Cards as gifts for others, BUT, if you can get them discounted...you can use these to purchase items you need already.

You may have seen at Kroger and their grocery stores:

Kroger
Baker’s
City Market
Dillons
Fry’s
Gerbes
Hilander
Jay C
King Soopers
Owen’s
Pay Less
QFC
Scott’s stores

that they have Gift Card centers. This is a spot where you can find gift cards for all different stores, restaurants, etc. For example, I have seen Home Depot, eBay, TGI Fridays, etc, etc.

What is the benefit of buying these gift cards from Kroger vs. the actual store/restaurant?

Well, there are a few.

First, if you use a Credit Card that gives you maximum rebates at Grocery Stores, you are then getting extra money back on those Gift Card purchases.

For example, the Credit Card I use at the Grocery Stores right now is the Chase Freedom(SM) Credit Card because I get 3.75% back on my Grocery Store purchases ( you get that extra .75% by waiting to cash out when you get to $200 ). So, now I am getting 3.75% back on my Gift Card purchases. Click here to get this credit card.

Second, Kroger is offering a Holiday bonus of DOUBLE gas rewards for Gift Card purchases at their stores.

Here is an example of how it works. Kroger currently gives you 10 cents off per gallon for every $100 you purchase at their store. BUT....everytime you fill up...even if it is only for $30, it takes off $100 worth from your total.

Hmmm..let me explain a bit more. Say you spent $300 in the month of October at Kroger for purchases. You now get 10 cents off per gallon 3 times, because you have $300. Basically, you get one fill up for each $100...so ONLY fill up when your tank is almost empty!

But, thanks to this promotion, for every $50 in Gift Card purchases you will earn another 10 cents off per gallon. The $50 in Gift Cards is equal to $100 in purchases. This promotion runs thru December 31st.

My local Kroger had gas at $1.84 a gallon today, so with my 10 cents off per gallon, that brings it down to $1.74. And, with me using the Grocery Game (please use referral moneysavingmethods@yahoo.com ), I usually only get about 2 fill ups...maybe 3... a month with 10 cents off. So, this additional bonus will help me!

NOW....how else can you benefit from this?

First, obviously, if you need gift cards for a few extra gifts....this may the place you want to buy them.

Second, if you are getting ready to buy a gift at a store ( for example...are you running to a sale at Toys R Us? ), stop by Kroger first and buy a Toys R Us gift card. That way, you are getting an extra percentage back with your Credit Card, PLUS getting bonus savings on your gas. Then, when you buy the gift at Toys R Us, pay with the gift card you just bought.

Getting ready to go out to dinner with family/friends? Meeting at Olive Garden, Chili's, TGIs? Stop by Kroger first and buy a gift card. Then, when you pay your bill, pay with the gift card and earn that extra percentage back PLUS get the bonus gas credit.

Hopefully, I haven't confused everyone too much.

And, while there, notice that they are also giving you 10 cents off per gallon fill up for every TWO prescriptions you fill. So, if you have some Kroger Prescription Coupons, this could also be a great deal for you!

I was wondering if you could buy Kroger gift cards? I would be buying the card and building up dollar amts. on gift cards and using it on gas. Is my logic correct?

Example: I buy $50 Kroger gift card. The $50 in gift cards is now equal to $100 in purchases. I take the gift card to the gas station so I can get 10 cents off my gas. The $50 will be gone. I'll do it again. I won't have to buy groceries in order to get 10 cents off.

Carrie, can you see a flaw? Will that help us?

Evelyn,

That is a great question.

I just sent Kroger an email asking them to clarify on the Kroger Gift Cards. Do they count?

If so...you are right...go in and buy a gift card ( $50 ) everytime before you fill up and you get the 10 cents off per gallon AND your rebate on your credit card for purchasing from a Grocery Store.

I will let you know what I find out.

Do you know if they by chance carry McDonald's gift cards? I like to use them to get the Upromise money - I thought this would be a great way to really maximize all the savings. :)

Coral,

I am not sure.

I have been to different Krogers and seen different cards at each. They have a huge case full, so they might.

If I hit Kroger this week, I will take a look.

Evelyn,

Excludes:
• Kroger Banner Gift Cards
• The Wishes line Gift Cards
• Green Dot Prepaid Reloadable Products & MoneyPaks
• Western Union Prepaid Cards

SO...it won't work. Too bad. That would have been a great deal.

Coral,

When I ran to Kroger last night, I checked their Gift Card section and they DID have McDonald's.

Not sure if all stores are the same, but mine was there.
