I used to be a real big boy. You could say I was horizontally challenged. OK, let's stop parsing, I was fat! Fifty pounds overweight to be exact. I found myself out of breath when chasing my kids around, always very lethargic, and very low on energy. One day I just got sick of it, and vowed to not only change my eating habits, but also start an exercise program. Here are some ways I started to get more exercise without spending a dime! These are all excellent money saving methods since I didn't have to pay a cent for an expensive gym membership.
~ Park, Walk, and Climb. - Don't search for the parking spot closest to the front door of the store anymore. Instead, park way out in the parking lot and walk! Also, instead of using the elevator, walk up the stairs at work. Easy and free calorie burners, plus you won't get any dings in your car doors. Start looking for opportunities to burn calories, they are everywhere and free for the taking.
~ Start Walking The Neighborhood. - The best way to burn enough calories to burn fat is to get your heart rate up for 30 minutes at a time at least 3-5 days per week. Start doing a brisk walk or bike ride around the neighborhood in the evening. With the nice spring weather, this is a great time to start.
~ Change Your Mindset. - This is totally free as well! Right before you go for your walk, or while you are exercising, visualize yourself in that swimsuit this summer. Picture where you want to be and how you want to feel. Never lose sight of those goals and always keep that mental picture of the new you in your mind. This helped me get through many hard workouts when I just wanted to throw in the towel. It is not easy, and I slipped along the way with my diet, but don't beat yourself up when it happens. The best thing you can do is get right back on the horse and continue exercising!
Unfortunately, I can't say I spent no money getting in shape. I did buy a mountain bike and some free weights. But they were both money well spent because they helped me to get to my goal of losing 50 pounds and they don't require a start-up fee and monthly dues like a gym membership. If you are in the market for some exercise equipment or sporting goods to help you get in shape, here are some money saving online coupons. Now get out there and start sweating!
