I must admit that birthing three kids does something to ones body. Or, at least to mine!

Gone are the days of eating whatever I want, whenever I want and still looking OK. It is disheartening, but I also know that I have the power to take care of myself, exercise, eat healthy and do it all within a budget. Can't beat that!

When I first started by blog last year, my top earner was grocery shopping savings and online offers. But as the year progressed, my blog definitely became my top money method.

And, blogging is something that is free to do and a fun way to share with others something wonderful about yourself. I have read many different types of blogs. There are those similar to mine that revolve around saving money, of course, but there are many, many more out there, too.

There are blogs dedicated strictly to those that like to read, cooking blogs, scrapbooking blogs, family sites, business blogs, fitness blogs, etc, etc. If their is a topic worth discussing, someone has probably blogged about it.

I often get emails from others wanting to know how to start a blog and then, how to earn money.
First, the blog part must come first, of course. And, it did take me about 6 months before I made anything substantial, but eventually I did start to make some money through affiliate programs and advertisers. You can click here to go to my web page on Affiliates.

My favorite programs for earning money blogging? CJ, Linkshare, CPA Storm, Exclusive CPA, Logical Media, My Savings ( click on the advertise button at the very bottom to register ), Share a Sale, Panthera Network.

But, one of the aspects you will find when applying for affiliate programs is that often times, you must have your own url or web address. When you set up a blog, the address is often times ( if using a free provider ) an address that is not your own unique url. So, this means you usually have to pay to get one.

But, yay, right now you can get a free web address through Outright when you sign up for free. And, as I mentioned here about Outright, this is a great free program to utilize and to track your income and expenses when running a business from home ( or a blog ). It will help figure out taxes owed approx, and give you nice reports to track how you are doing.

$1,050 in Market Research Studies - See if you Qualify!

Time for the weekly feature on Market Research. I will strive to bring you new programs to join each week, as well as list any studies these companies are screening for at the current time.

Nielsen Home Scan Research

This is run by the same company that does the Nielsen ratings for TV, but instead they studying shopping habits. If you are selected, they provide you with a scanner that allows you to scan your items when you shop.

In some cases, you can actually scan the receipt and it uploads all the information.

You then transmit it to them, and earn points that can be redeemed for gifts.

New Balance Wear Tester

How does the program work?

New Balance has a testing program and if selected, they send you a pair of their shoes to wear.

Usually, you get to keep them for 3 to 4 weeks. After you are done, you send them back.

Why do you send them back? Apparently, they want to evaluate wear patterns based on usage.

Usually, children get picked more often than adults. Maybe it is because they are much harder on shoes.

But, hey, I will have my son test shoes if it means they may create a product that lasts longer for my boys. My son is SO hard on his shoes and jeans!

But, before you do...make sure you get your foot measured by one of those little doodaddies at the shoes store. They need your exact measurement and width.

On top of that, they had a wonderful Expo to meet with companies on new and fun products for all of our families. And, Chicago! Must I say more! The events and parties they had set up for us all were out of this world.

Are you spending too much for Life Insurance?

Or, is it to much? Sometimes I wonder about my grammar capabilities.

Anyway, I had no idea my husband and I were paying too much! Since we both started working out of college, we always just opted for life insurance through our employers. I figured, it must be the best rate, right? It is thru his benefits!

Well, I was wrong. And, I must thank Libby Greiwe for showing me the light.

You may remember when I started the year with a Method Madness Marathon. I did this to prepare us all for the year 2009. I wanted us all to go through all of our monthly bills and see what could be lowered so we could see where we might be able to save or make some extra money.

Libby took that opportunity to do a guest post for me and enlighten us all to another opportunity to save. So, my husband and I met with her ( love her, she is so cute and sweet and very patient with my inability to get all the paperwork signed and into her on time ).

FINALLY, after much delay on my side, we are official!!! And, I am happy to report that our policy has now been increased by $325,000 AND I am paying less a year. The rate stays constant for the next 10 years. If we would have kept the policy exactly the same, we could have saved even more! PLUS, we still get the 1 times bases pay Life Insurance my husband gets through work for free.

Saving on your Life Insurance

Refinancing your mortgage, shopping auto insurance rates ... all obvious tools to reduce expenses because these are things we know we control. But what about saving the money on things we can’t control… or at least we didn’t think we could!

Most employers offer 1x salary of life insurance for free. Which is the perfect price. But, in most households the free insurance isn’t enough to cover the loss of salary, educational expenses, the mortgage, etc. So, they give you the option to buy additional coverage at a set cost.

This is a great deal for the older people nearing retirement who are less healthy and are of “advanced age.” But, for the young and healthy, it’s typically a bad deal. You find private life insurance for sometimes half the cost. The other benefit to private coverage is that you can take it with you. If you lose your job, switch companies, or retire, you own your coverage and can take it with you at the rate you bought it at. Otherwise, you’re subject to the new pricing at your new employer.

Already own private life insurance, now is a great time to shop around and see if you can beat your premium! Have a 20-year term policy and it’s been 10 years since you’ve taken it out? Try a new 10 year policy and you might be surprised at the savings without giving up any time on your coverage.

When I do comprehensive planning with clients I would say 75% of the time we can save them money by doing private life insurance. I would recommend you work with a broker/agent that can run quotes through several different companies so you know you’re getting the best price.
